FAISALABAD. All refund claims up to January 01, 2016 have been totally cleared while import containers are being cleared same day in order to facilitate local traders.
Faisalabad Customs Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary stated this while addressing a meeting of the office-bearers of various local trade bodies at Faisalabad Dry Port. The meeting was organised by Faisalabad Dry Port Trust (FDPT) Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh.
The collector said that Faisalabad Customs was taking appropriate steps to facilitate the exporters and importers in addition to generating much needed revenue for the government kitty. He said that in this connection, the officials were vigilant and the export consignments are being cleared within one hour after its arrival at this upcountry dry port.
He said that this facility will continue while steps were being taken to clear the export consignments of leading export houses at their door steps. He said that more innovative steps were in pipeline to extend the facility of self clearance. Under this scheme, the exporters could themselves clear their consignments without involving the clearing agent, he added.
Addressing on this occasion, FDPT Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh underlined the importance of import and export and said that immediately after taking over the charge of this office, he has taken a number of steps to remove the unnecessary procedural hurdles.
“We have decreased the freight & other charges of FDPT to convince the exporters to route their entire cargo through Faisalabad Dry Port,” he said and added “We are always available to the importers and exporters in order to resolve their issues”.
This meeting has been specially arranged to brief them about the steps taken by the collectorate as well as by the management of the FDPT. Commenting on the facility of self clearance, he told that a training session for the exporters was being arranged on this topic by the FDPT so they could minimise their expenditures by saving the fees paid to the clearing agents.
Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh also thanked the collector and said that he was very kind and fully cooperative with the importers and exporters and hoped that this cooperation will continue in the best interest of the country.
This meeting was also attended by Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Engineer Muhammad Saeed Sheikh President, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association Chairman Mian Ajmal Farooq and others.
They also shared their issues in respect to the clearance of their cargo at the dry port while the collector assured to resolve their genuine problems on a priority basis.
