Customs Court acquitted suspect involved in foreign currency smuggling case

KARACHI: The Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi, on benefit of doubt acquitted the accused person namely Syed Mehtab Hussain son of Syed Sadiq Ali Shah who was involved in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband/ prohibited foreign currency out of Pakistan by traveling to Dubai from Karachi.

During the hearing, both sides’ parties have completed the arguments, after the final arguments, court announced the judgment, in which court observed that “in view of discussion it appears that there are reasonable doubt about the prosecution case as narrated the FIR and deposed by the witnesses in court, therefore, court hold charge against the accused is not proved and court acquitted the accused from the charge”.

According to the prosecution, on April 14, 2009, customs team intercepted the accused and recovered contraband foreign currency $ 34, 300/ equalling to Rs 27, 69, 725 from his possession.

After the formalities, case was registered against him as crime no DEC-21/2009 JIAP under section 156 (1) (8) (89) of the Customs Act 1969.
