Customs Intelligence recovers tyres, welding rods worth Rs 5 million

ISLAMABAD: Directorate Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Rawalpindi has seized a huge quantity of non-duty paid tyres and welding rods while two persons were arrested.

Customs intelligence official told Customs Today that the collector office received information that some elements were planning to smuggle foreign origin tyres and welding rods. On this, a customs intelligence team was formed to curb the smuggling. The team established checked post at Jani Toll plaza GT Road, Islamabad and intercepted a truck bearing register number C-1645. During the checking of the truck the team recovered 240 tyres and 7000 kilogram China brand welding rods which were hidden under the sand.

The team asked the driver name Yaqoob Khan S/O Lateef Khan residential Landi Kotel, Khyber Agency about customs clearance documents of loaded items but he was failed to produce any legal document. The team sized the items and arrested the driver and conductor under Customs Act 1969 section171. The team also impounded the truck which was loaded with smuggle items. Customs officials said that the value of seized items is more than Rs5 million in markets.
