ASO incharge Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Choudhary told Customs Today that an ASO team was performing duty at Sambrial under the supervision of Inspector Aftab Ahmed to check vehicles under anti-smuggling campaign launched by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The team checked several vehicles meanwhile it intercepted a Toyota Corolla bearing Registration No LE-16-3133 coming from Islamabad and going to Sialkot. The officials checked the car and recovered 1,859 mobile phones and tabs worth Rs.27.

The team asked driver named Muhammad Saleem and owner of goods named Furqan Butt to show documents regarding legal import of the items but they could not produce the same. Therefore, the officials arrested both accused persons, besides impounding the vehicle along with cell phones and tabs.

The team registered a case against driver and owner under customs law and customs act 1969. The team produced driver and owner before the court for remand that was approved for three days.

Inspector Aftab Ahmed told that the ASO performance is in full swing to curb smuggling whereas the ASO has vowed to eliminate the smuggling from Gujranwala region, adding that the ASO has tightened nose around the smugglers.
