Chief Collector Zahid reviews performance of Hyderabad Customs

HYDERABAD: Customs Enforcement-South Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar visited the Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad in order to review the revenue recovery status.

The chief collector was briefed on the revenue collected by the department so far. After attending briefing, Zahid Khokhar expressed complete satisfaction over the performance of the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) in the region.

He also directed the official of Hyderabad Customs to mark the 100 percent achievement in revenue generation by the end of fiscal year 2016-17.

The chief collector also asked the officials to curb the smuggling of Iranian diesel and other contraband items in order to save the local market and national exchequer.

During his visit, Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar along with Hyderabad Customs Collector Agha Shahid Majeed, Additional Collector Rehmatullah Vistro, and Deputy Collector Nafees Ahmed Khan addressed a press conference in Hyderabad Customs House.

He informed the media representatives that tthe contraband items like gutka, mainpuri, cigarettes and betel nuts worth around Rs 220 million have been seized in raids, carried out in different cities of Sindh.

“Due to persist raids and action against smugglers, the crime of smuggling these contraband items has reduced,” observed Khokhar at a press conference.

He added that a majority of these raids were carried out in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobadad and Larkana districts. He said that the recovered items include around Rs 120 million worth of gutka, 239kg hashish worth Rs 550 million and cigarettes worth Rs 45 million.
