LHC seeks reply from Punjab govt, PRA on 16pc sales tax on services

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) seeks a detailed answer from the Punjab government and the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) on 16 percent sales tax on services.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the applications of Lahore High Court Bar Association and the Lahore Tax Bar Association in which advocates Mansha Sukhaira, Mohsin Virk and Barister Ahmed Qayyum appeared before the court.

During the hearing, the counsels argued that the Punjab government had imposed 16 percent sales tax on the services of advocates. The imposition of sales tax on advocates services will make the justice costly.

He also point out that after passing of many months the Punjab government and the Punjab Revenue Authority had not submitted answer before the court.

On the other sided Assistant Advocate General Ahmed Hassan argued that government preparing the answer in this regard.

After hearing the arguments from both sides court extended that date of stay order till nine December and seeks the reply from the Punjab Government. Court also orders the PRA officers must present before the court on next hearing date.
