ISLAMABAD: Additional Collector Customs Adjudication Imran Chaudhary issued Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of customs authorities.
Sources told Customs Today that customs authorities received secret information that some vehicles which were brought into the country without payment of duty and taxes were cleared through Lahore Dry Port. Sources said that these vehicles were also registered in Excise Rawalpindi by using fake certificate.
It is necessary to mention here that according to import policy government banned the import of vehicles which are more than five years old. Sources said soon after receiving the information customs authorities formed different teams to impound these vehicles.
During checking customs team raided a compound and impounded two Toyota Hilux displaying number plates of Excise department. The owner of the vehicle who was identified as Wasif Hussain failed to show any legal documents regarding possession of these vehicles.
Upon his failure customs team impounded both vehicles and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication. During hearing owner of the vehicles argued that customs department is not authorized to impound the vehicles owned by Excise department but this plea was rejected by Collector Adudication and he directed to impound the vehicles immediately.
FBR already directed Customs Intelligence and Investigation department to use all available resources to curb plying of non-customs paid vehicles in the city.
