Customs ASO impounds 796kg fireworks during crackdown

LAHORE: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Lahore Wednesday impounded 796 kilograms of fireworks from a goods transport ada in Lahore.

The sources said that on information of Assistant Collector Asim Awan Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) team raided the ada and impounded the fireworks that were legally imported

The sources said that the fireworks were to be smuggled to Peshawar from Lahore and held at the same time when the loaders were loading the crackers in a truck.

It was said that the crackers are banned items by law and according to Customs Act these fireworks are of 2 (S) items which cannot be returned to the parties in any case. Sources said that usually parties who deal in 2(S) items do not come to Customs authorities for the release of the items.

The crackers seized by Customs Preventive team were valued at Rs 10,00,000.  The ASO team conducted the operation on the directions of Collector of Customs Dr Zulfiqar Younas and the operation was led by Superintendent Waqar Cheema while other customs officials including Deputy Superintendent Ejaz Rasool and other were also part of the team.

The sources said that the customs authorities after registering a case have started investigations to reach to the parties involved.
