Sialkot ASO impounds non-duty paid Prado from GT Road

SIALKOT: Customs Collectorate Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sialkot has impounded a non-customs paid Prado during vehicle checking on GT Road the other day. The vehicle was brought into the country without payment of duty and taxes.

Sources told Customs Today that Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Chaudhary received information that some non-customs paid vehicles are plying on the Sialkot roads. He constituted an ASO team under the supervision of Superintendent Sardar Manzoor which also included Inspector Aftab Ahmed to check vehicles. The ASO team established many check points on main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles.

During checking the ASO team intercepted a Prado and asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents regarding possession of the vehicle.

But the driver of the vehicle failed to show any relevant documents about the custody of the Prado. Upon his failure ASO team after registering a case against the owner and impounded the vehicle and forward the case to Customs Adjudication department for further proceedings.

It is necessary to mention here that ASO teams expedited its efforts to impound non customs paid vehicles which are plying on the roads. Recently ASO team impounded many non-duty paid vehicles.

Sources said that if owners of these vehicles failed to provide any relevant documents about custody of the vehicles then their vehicle will be auction. Customs authorities are holding auction of seized goods and non-duty paid vehicles regularly to enhance revenue collection to meet the target set for Fiscal Year 2016-17.
