Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled tyres

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled tyres of different brands and sizes worth Rs 240,000 involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 140,000 during a successful raid.

The intelligence team intercepted Mazda Mini truck bearing Registration No LES-09-2706 near Gutwala Toll Plaza Sheikhupura Road, Faisalabad which was coming from Lahore and going to Layyah. The officials recovered tyres of different origins, including Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Philippine and India.

The team asked the driver namely as Muhammad Shoaib son of Muhammad Sharif to shows documents regarding legal import of the tyres. He produced a receipt issued by M/s Tayyab Goods Forwarding Agency, Lahore but the customs authorities after finding some descrepanies seized the tyres under Section 2(s), and 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 and 3(1) and 3(3) of the Import and Exports Control Act, 1950 punishable under Section 156(1) 89 of the Customs Act, 1969.

Faisalabad Customs Intelligence Director Rubab Sikandar received information regarding smuggling of tyres on which he formed a team comprising Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain, Superintendent Saifullah, Intelligence Officers Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, Sepoys Muhammad Iqbal, Israr Ahmed, Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Rafique and Muhammad Tariq to curb the smuggling.
