Dubai Customs introduces new invention: Smart Customs Clearance Vehicle

DUBAI: Dubai Customs has developed an all new special service bringing more convenienceto disabled, elderly and VIP passengers at Dubai airports.

A state-of-the-art smart customs clearance vehicle is being deployed to offer special needs people and dignitaries unique and delightful service with no need to wait at or even approach Customs counters to clear their luggage.

The new smart customs clearance cart is an eco-friendly, electric-powered golf buggy equipped with a security camera, a facial recognition device, two movable electronic chairsfor inspector and customer, three smart screens,a document verification device, a luggage screening table,  and other facilities.

The cart, which is the first of its kind around the world, has been invented by Dubai Customs Senior Inspection Team Leader Mohammad Al Khanjari, the man behind another world renownedinnovation, Al Kashif.

The smart customs clearance vehicle simplifies and expedites clearance procedures for the disabled, the elderly and VIPs, particularly in relation to items to be declared to Customs such as currency, jewellery, and commercial goods.

“The smart cart is geared to help reduce queuing at Customs inspection stations. It is expected to enter service and be fully operative at Dubai’s airports by November 15,” said Al Khanjari. The patent of this innovation has been registered with the UAE Ministry of Economy, he added.

Mohammed Al Khanjari thanked Dubai Customs management for the support they give to innovators and their encouragement for staff to come up with new ideas and developments to improve Customs work.
