ASO seizes non-customs paid cigarettes, cloth worth millions of rupees

LAHORE: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) on Wednesday seized forging origin suiting cloth worth Rs 66 million from Daewoo Bus Station, sources told Customs Today.

It was reported that the ASO team led by Superintendent Waqar Ahmad Cheema raided the station under the supervision of Assistant Collector of Customs Asim Awan and seized the illegal and non-customs paid cloth.

The sources said that the lot was containing assorted type of suiting cloth which was to be transported to other markets of Lahore.

The sources said that initially the owners of the cloth has not been identified, however, investigations have been initiated on the basis of available information.

It was further said that the cloth was impounded on the directions of Collector of Customs Preventive Zulfiqar Younas while including Inspectors Ejaz Butt, Salim Shahid, Irfan Mumtaz Mohota and others were also part of the raiding team.

The sources said that the customs authorities have registered a case of smuggling against accused persons and started investigations.  Meanwhile the ASO team has also seized Rs 1 million non duty paid cigarettes from Shah Alam Market.

The sources said that the ASO team on information raided in the market and confiscated banned Pine cigarettes and other brands from the criminal elements.

Sources said that Customs Preventive authorities enhanced their checking and they are using all available resources to curb smuggling attempts in the region.
