Customs Intelligence-ASO plans crackdown against smugglers

KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation-Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) Feroze Alam Junejo has formed a team to curb smuggling of various goods item and non-duty paid vehicles in the region.

Sources informed that the director has formed a team under the supervision of the ASO deputy director to foil the smuggling attempts as well as to impound the non-duty paid vehicles roaming within the city.

The source also informed that the decision to form a team was an outcome of the meeting that was held between the Customs Intelligence Director General Shaukat Ali and the Director Feroz Alam.

The Customs Intelligence deputy director along with assistant director was devising a strategy against the culprits involved in the smuggling of different items.

In the first step, the officers will enhanced the monitoring of the different vehicles showrooms across the city and surprise visits to the showrooms will be the second step. The officers will also inquire about the data regarding legal import of the vehicles, the source added.

Both the deputy director and the assistant director of Customs Intelligence ASO will submit the plan or the strategy being devised against the smugglers to the director and a detailed briefing will also be given.

The department is also reviewing the option to enhance the penalty of advised imprisonment to the culprits involved in the illegal activities. The owners of the non-duty paid vehicles will also be dealt with iron hand would also be the part of the plan, the source added.

In a recent meeting, Director General Shaukat Ali assured his full support to the Customs Intelligence-ASO staff and stressed upon the raids and the operations to be fruitful and result-oriented.
