Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds vehicle, 3,300 yard cloth

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, team has confiscated 3,300 yard of smuggled cloth, besides impounding a vehicle being used for transportation of smuggled items.

Following the directions of Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan, Superintendent Tariq Rafique constituted a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Nasarullah to check vehicles at Gujranwala General Bus Stand in order to curb smuggling attempt.

The said intelligence officer along with his team members, including Constables Usama, Sajid Raza, Boota and others started checking of vehicles on bus stand, meanwhile the officials intercepted a vehicle bearing Registration No LEH-12-0715 and team checked the vehicle that led to the recovery of 3300 yards of cloth worth Rs 300,000.

The team asked driver Rafique to show documents regarding legal import of the cloth but he informed the officials that the subject items was loaded from Rawalpindi and did not have documents showing legal import of the cloth.

The team confiscated the cloth and impounded the said vehicles under the customs laws and shifted the items to the warehouse. The team released driver after proper interrogation.

It is learnt that the team impounded the vehicle due to incomplete documents of customs clearance whereas the customs will register a case and forward it to the Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings. The department will issue legal notice to bus stand manager.

If the Customs Adjudication department announced verdict in favor of department, the Customs Intelligence will auction the confiscated cloth and vehicle through open bid.
