Tax evasion: SC directs Imran, Tareen to file statements

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan Wednesday directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and General Secretary Jahangir Khan Tareen to submit concise statements in disqualification case over alleged tax evasion and non-declaration of offshore companies in their nomination papers.

The a two-member bench, led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, issued directives to the opposition leaders in petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi for seeking court’s directives to Election Commission of Pakistan for disqualification of Imran and Tareen.

Appearing before the bench, the counsel for Abbasi requested the court to club the matter with the Panama Leaks case. Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali said that only after receiving the concise statements, the court will examine the record and then shall decide to fix the matter before a larger bench hearing the Panama Leaks case.

Later, the bench adjourned the hearing of the case for a week.
