Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds vehicles, goods worth Rs 13m

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, impounded vehicles worth Rs 3 million, besides seizing smuggled items worth Rs 10 million from October 15 to November 15, 2016.

Following the direction of Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan, the Gujranwala Customs Intelligence showed exceptional performance, as it foiled various smuggling attempts in the region during the said period, officials said. They added that the department was working by adopting effective strategies against the smuggling.

The department impounded two vehicles, including Honda Civic and Toyota Surf Hilux worth Rs 3 million in two different raids. It confiscated other items, including 7,450 yards of smuggled, Iranian nylon rope and other items worth Rs 10 million during the said period.

Superintendent Tariq Rafique told that the officials have confiscated all items after the owners remained fail to produce the documents showing legal import of the items and vehicles. He said that field staff was performing duty much better to curb smuggling, as Director General Shaukat Ali and Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan has directed all subordinate officers to work with dedication.

Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar said that vigilance has been enhanced on roads to keep an eye on the smugglers, who were bringing huge losses to national exchequer, besides damaging the local markets. He said that anti-smuggling campaign will be strengthened more following the orders of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The department is making plan to set up blockades at Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauddin whereas blockades are already set up at Kamoke, Rahwali and Wazirabad in Gujranwala to curb smuggling.
