Peshawar Customs Intelligence impounds 26 dismantled vehicles worth Rs 14m

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Peshawar has impounded 26 vehicles worth Rs 14 million.

Sources informed that information received by Director Muhammad Saleem that an attempt would be made to smuggle vehicles in cut-form from Karachi to Sawat on 10 wheeler trucks.

Acting on the information, a raiding party was constituted to conducted raid on (M-I) Motorway. The team held picket and started checking of the trucks. During the checking of trucks and large vehicles, the Customs Intelligence staff intercepted three 10-wheelers at Mardan interchange.

The search of trucks was conducted that led to the recovery of 26 vehicles in cut-form along with parts. Chassis plates of 17 vehicles were found intact at front portions, while the chassis plates of 9 vehicles were in serviceable form.

The owners of goods was asked to provide any legal proof written or otherwise regarding legal import and lawful possession of the recovered goods, but he could not produce any documents to establish the legal import.

The staff therefore seized the recovered goods and vehicles worth Rs 14 million. A criminal case was got registered against the owner of the goods. FIR has been lodged, besides arresting two accused persons. It is pertinent to mention here that the Peshawar Customs Intelligence has made such a case for first time.
