Customs Intelligence impounds non-duty paid Mitsubishi Lancer from Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigations car cell has impounded a smuggled and non-duty paid Mitsubishi Lancer car bearing registration no. DGA 0384- Jaffarabad Model 2001 from Rawalpindi.

Officials of Customs I&I has told Customs Today that they received an information that a non-duty paid vehicle Mitsubishi Lancer car was parked at the parking area of Scheme III Rawalpindi. In pursuance of the information, the staff of the special car cell rushed to the spot where they found the vehicle at the parking area of Scheme III Rawalpindi.

Despite their hectic efforts nobody came forward to claim the vehicle ownership, ultimately after waiting more than two hours the vehicle was taken into the custody in presence of the witness and was shifted to the Customs Headquarters Islamabad.

Where the chassis of the vehicle was physically examined and compiled with record of import vehicles through Amnesty Scheme 2013 and auctioned vehicles available with the Directorate but no record of the same chassis number was founded in existed data.

Therefore the car detained as un-claimed under section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969 with the approval of competent authority for verification of its import status, payment of duty taxes leviable thereon and lab test.

It is pertinent to mention here that customs car cell is expedited their efforts against non duty paid and offending vehicles. Sources said that most of non duty paid and offending vehicles are being used in smuggling attempts.
