Customs Intelligence impounds smuggled Toyota Corolla Altis

ISLAMABAD: The special car cell of the Directorate General of Customs intelligence and investigation has impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Corolla Altis during a raid.

Officials told Customs Today that acting on information, the staff of the special car cell intercepted a car bearing Registration No AAA-462 near Cantt area, Rawalpindi. The owner of the car named Muhammad Umar was asked to provide documents regarding legal import of the vehicle, but he failed to produce any legal proof regarding import of the vehicle or payment of customs duty.

As per computerised data of registered vehicle of Sibi Motor Registration Authority, no record existed in import data available with this Directorate General of Customs Intelligence; therefore, the car cell staff impounded the vehicle under Section 17 of the Custom Act, 1969 with the approval of competent authority for verification of its import status and payment of duty taxes.

Customs Intelligence Director General Shukat Ali has appreciated the performance of the car cell, the officials said, adding that noose has been tightened around smugglers in order to weed out smuggling of different smuggled goods and vehicles.
