HONG KONG: Hong Kong Disneyland is going to get a multiyear, $1.4 billion expansion. The Walt Disney Co., in announcing the project last week, said it “underscores the Company’s commitment to the long-term success of the resort.” The project will include a a dedicated Marvel area and a new Frozen-themed land.
Disney will pay $650 million and the Hong Kong government will spend $750 million. Disney said Tuesday the development is subject to approval by Disney’s board of directors and the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
The park has struggled. Attendance dropped by 9 percent to 6.8 million people last year, according to an annual report by the Themed Entertainment Association and the Aecom consulting firm.
