DG Shaukat for impounding smuggled vehicles

ISLAMABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director General Shaukat Ali has ordered officers of all directorates to expedite operation against non-duty paid vehicles in country.

The DG has directed them to impound minimum a vehicle in a day and thirty vehicles in a month, adding that relaxation for 2-4 days could be given, but more relaxation will not be offered.

Officials said that the purpose of this campaign is to establish writ of the Customs Intelligence, besides warning the vehicle smugglers.

He made it clear in his orders that smuggled vehicles were increasing in country and it is necessary to launch campaign against vehicles along with curbing smuggling of other items.

The DG also issued directions to mobilise all field investigation units against the smuggled vehicles, besides improving the information-sharing system.

Following the instructions, the intelligence officials have increased checking of vehicles in order to impound non-duty paid vehicles, besides developing a strategy to tighten noose on smugglers.
