She made it clear that the department was only authourised to hold the items, which are in the list of PSQC, adding that it could not hold any other item. She further said that some dishonest persons existed in every department, adding that the DG took stern action against them on malpractice after receiving complaints.

The personal assistant further highlighted that the importers should raise voice when the PSQC officials held non-applicable items and issued clearance certificate against Rs 15,000. The importers should approach the DG along with evidence or they can lodge telephonic complaint on 021-99206260 and through email at [email protected], she said.

She further informed that the DG has directed the officials that misconduct or malpractice will not be tolerated in any way, adding that the traders should cooperate with the department to bring transparency.

It may be mentioned here that Customs Today earlier highlighted the issue that importers are facing hardships in clearance of consignments at Port Qasim, as officials of Pakistan Standard Quality Control (PSQC) are trying to impose their own policies for minting money by holding consignments of items on which PSQC law is not applicable.
