Sindh Excise collects over Rs 16b tax in four months

KARACHI: The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has collected Rs 16,042 million in four months (July-October) of the current financial year (2016-17).

This was revealed by Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Mukesh Kumar Chawla while presiding over a departmental meeting here in his office. E&T Secretary Dr Mansoor Abbas Rizvi and Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui also attended the meeting.

The tax recovery was made in various heads that was Rs 2,518 million more as compared to the corresponding period of previous financial year.

While briefing the meeting, Shoaib Siddiqui said that the department had collected Rs 1,712.239 million in term of motor vehicle tax, Rs 11,875.857 million as infrastructure cess Rs 179 million as professional tax, Rs 946 million as property tax and the rest amount was collected in various heads.

The minister, while expressing his satisfaction over tax collections, directed the officers to speed up their efforts for achieving the targets because all development of the province depending on timely recovery of the taxes.
