FIA recovers Rs 1.8b during 2016 in Punjab

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recovered Rs 1.8 billion and arrested 994 proclaimed offenders in Punjab during various operations from January 1 to December 28, 2016.

According to sources, different circles of the FIA, including Anti-Corruption Circle, Commercial Bank Circle, Corporate Crime Circle and Anti-Human Trafficking Circle initiated as many as 5,684 enquiries this year, including 1,318 carried over from the previous year.

Out of a total of 7,002 enquiries, 3,119 were transferred or closed while 2,379 were converted into cases and 1,504 were lying pending as yet.

Different circles of the Punjab FIA registered 3,652 cases while 1,506 cases were carried over from previous year. Out of total 5,158 cases 402 were transferred to the departments concerned or closed and 3,078 challans were submitted to different courts while 1,678 cases are still pending with different circles.

There were 1,010 court absconder during the current year with 951 were carried over from the previous year. Out of that, the FIA Punjab arrested 100 while 910 are still pending on record. The FIA recovered Rs 1.177 billion from offenders during 11 months of the current year and different courts imposed fine on offenders to the tune of Rs 150 million.

Top recovery of Rs 851 million was made by Corporate Crime Circle, Lahore while Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Gujranwala stood second in this regard.

Human smuggling is the main crime to be countered by the FIA and upper Punjab districts are main hub for this crime. Trafficking in persons is a crime that ruthlessly exploits women, children and men for countless reasons, including forced labour and domestic servitude.
