Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled items worth Rs 19m in Dec’s last week

FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized smuggled goods worth Rs 18769,384 involving duty and taxes of Rs, 4834,018 besides impounding offending three vehicles worth Rs 900,000 in different anti-smuggling activities during the last week of December 2016.

The customs official told Customs Today that the Customs Intelligence conducted operations on the instructions of Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain against the smuggled goods and vehicles in different areas of its jurisdiction including Sargodha, Khushab and Faisalabad.

The Customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act-1969 after the owners failed to produce required legal documents of imported items.

As per details, the smuggled goods confiscated by the Customs Intelligence teams include computer systems worth Rs 9839,319 involving customs duty of Rs 2059,482, laptops worth Rs 6881,378 involving customs duty worth Rs 1305,218 and food processors (New), Deuron brand ( 1280-Units), worth Rs 2048,687 involving custom duty of Rs 1469,318. During the raids, the customs officials asked the accused to produce the legal documents of the abovementioned items, but they failed to do so.

The intelligence officers, comprising Senior Intelligence Officers Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Siddique, Mohammad Saleem and Liaqat Ali, Israr Ahmed and Shoukat Hayat, participated in the operations. However, seizure reports have been submitted to the Adjudication Department for further legal action.
