HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Field Investigation Unit (FIU) foiled an attempt of smuggling and seized 598 crates of Iranian origin juice worth Rs717,000 involving duty and tax of Rs492.400 in an operation.
According to details, the Customs Intelligence received information through Director Feroz Alam Junejo about transportation of foreign origin items through National Highway, bypass Hyderabad. The FIU immediately constituted a team in the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi including Inspector Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Musarat Ali Shah, Sikander Malah, Noshad Khan, Azam Ali Chandio, Muhammad Imran, Janib Crub and Haneef Somroo.
The FIU team started searching vehicles at Hyderabad bypass to bar the smuggling attempt. While checking the FIU team intercepted a public transport vehicle and recovered 598 crates of Iranian origin juice. The crates were being transported to Karachi from Faisalabad. The FIU team asked the driver to show the legal documents regarding possession and transportation of foreign origin juice but he failed to provide any required document.
After his failure, the FIU team registered a case of smuggling against the accused and confiscated the crates.
The team transferred the crates to Customs Warehouse and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceeding.
