MULTAN: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) impounded smuggled vehicles and miscellaneous items of worth Rs236.34 million during the first half (July to December) of current fiscal year (FY) 2016-17.
According to details, the Customs Collectorate has intensified the anti-smuggling drive against smuggled goods and non-custom paid vehicles during the above said period. The ASO conducted various anti-smuggling operations and impounded 80 vehicles of worth Rs125 million during the above said period. The impounded vehicles include Toyota V8, Toyota Axio, Lexus, Toyota Crown, Toyota Corolla G, Toyota Corolla X, Toyota Fielder, Toyota Vitz and others.
Sources said that the ASO made 114 seizures of worth Rs100.76 million during the same period of financial year 2015-16 adding that the ASO also impounded 48 offending vehicles of worth Rs46 million in the same period.
The Customs Collectorate impounded all 80 vehicles in road detection and interception in their jurisdiction under the directions of Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich.
The Customs Collectorate seized six various consignments of auto parts, tyres, diesel, cigarettes, fabric, electronic goods, mobile phones, gold and foreign currency of worth Rs.111.02 million during the first half of FY2016-17.
The ASO has registered various smuggling cases against accused ones and arrested five smugglers.
