KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs has started its working in order to formulate a plan regarding the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), it is learnt here.
Sources informed Customs Today that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has asked the Customs Department to prepare a working plan about the CPEC cargo which is to be passed from all important sea ports, including Karachi and Gwadar ports.
The sources said that the Chief Collectors Appraisement South Abdul Rashid Shaikh and Chief Collector-Enforcement South Muhammad Zahid Khokhar have already held a meeting and also discussed the working plan through which the strategy regarding the CPEC cargo is to be evolved.
Responding to a query, the sources informed that different collectorates, including Customs Appraisement East, Customs Appraisement West, Customs Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and Customs Preventive have been taken onboard in the entire process.
The sources disclosed that the 20 percent working has already been done in this regard and remaining 80 percent would take eight to six months to complete.
To a query, the sources further said that the Directorate General of Afghan Transit-Pakistan Customs has also given a task by the FBR to streamline the transportation process of Afghan Transit Cargo to avoid the chances of any embezzlement and mis-declaration.
The sources further revealed that the Customs authorities have also demanded the government confer “immigration powers” on Customs Department in order to take strict security measures on borders.
