Customs Intelligence impounds Rs10m non-duty paid BMW from Wahadat road

LAHORE: Directorate of Custom Intelligence and Investigations(I&I)Lahore has seized Rs 10 million illegally imported red BMW Jeep including duty and taxes worth Rs 6 million from Wahadat Road.

Sources said that on a tip off the customs anti-smuggling team on the directions of Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Zeba Hai Azhar intercepted a applied-for BMW jeep and confiscated upon finding that the owners have illegally imported the vehicle. The sources said that as soon as the customs authorities intercepted the vehicle the owner slipped away.

However, the customs authorities under the supervision of Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan after impounding the vehicle has started further investigations in to the case.

The sources said that new brand BMW was playing on a road near Wahdat Road without the customs clearance documents and the timely operation against the vehicle enabled the authorities  to seize the vehicle.

Official sources told Customs Today that the Director Zeba Hai Azhar has ordered its anti-smuggling team to undertake crackdowns against the elements involved in the crime of damaging national economy for their own limited and vested interests.

It was added that on the direction of the Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan has launched an aggressive campaign against the illegally and non-med that customs paid vehicles.

 The sources further informed that the deputy director has arranged periodical meetings with the customs officials under Lahore Directorate limits to improve their performance.
