ISLAMABAD: Customs Appellate Tribunal Chairman Justice(r) Malik Manzoor Hussain will start hearing cases at the Islamabad headquarters from today (Tuesday).
During his two day stay in the capital, the chairman will also hear cases listed from Tuesday to Wednesday as the head of division bench as well as single bench.
The chairman will hold the hearing of important cases such as Ayyan Ali’s money laundering and others.
Reportedly, Ayyan Ali’s counsel, Sardar Latif Khosa, had filed the petition at Customs Appellate Tribunal Islamabad, challenging decision of a lower customs court regarding confiscation of $500,000, seized while being smuggled by Ayyan Ali, and imposition of fine for trying to smuggle money out of Pakistan.
During his last visit, the chairman reserved decisions of three references filed against Directorate General of Investigation and Intelligence, Islamabad.
M/s Pakistan Royal Group, M/s Irfan Ullah and M/s Charisma Catering Islamabad filed these cases. The appellants filed cases challenging announcements made by the DG I&I, Islamabad. All three cases were filed in 2016.
M/s Pakistan Royal Group and M/s Charisma Catering Islamabad prayed the tribunal to direct the department to release the imported items which were confiscated by the customs authorities under alleged attempts of smuggling. M/s Irfan Ullah prayed the tribunal to order the department to release his vehicle which was impounded by customs authorities on suspicion of cut and wielded.
The bench, after hearing the arguments, reserved decisions on the said three cases. In the meantime, the bench also adjourned hearing of couple of other customs references.
