FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Mianwali has seized smuggled LED lights worth Rs2.9 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs6,26,923. The ASO authorities also impounded non duty paid Hino trailer worth Rs30,00,000.
Sources told Customs Today, that Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan received information regarding smuggling attempts on which he formed a team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Muhammad Mansha Muhammad Umar Bhatti, and Sepoys Muhammad Feroz, Muhammad Anwar, Said Rasool and others.
The team intercepted a Hino trailer bearing registration no. JU-6448 near Sara-e-Muhajir Chowk district Bhakkar. All the good were unloaded in the presence of driver as well as staff of ASO Mainwali and recovered 6000-kilograms of LED lights made in China. During the course of checking the driver namely Liaqat Ali son of Ahmed Sher failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession and transportation of LED lights. He only produce a fake GD.
The weight, description, quantity, even container mention in the GD was not tallied with the quantity of recovers goods. The ASO team seized the goods and vehicle and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
Therefore, the seizure report converted into proper seizure under section 168 of the customs act 1969 and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
