ISLAMABAD: A division bench of the Customs Appellate Tribunal adjourned the hearing of a customs reference, filed against Model Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad on Friday.
Customs Appellate Tribunal Members, Muhammad Nasir Khan and Ziauddin Wazir, heard the case which was filed recently seeking release of a dozen mobile phones.
On the day, the department sought time from the bench which was granted. The bench then adjourned hearing of the case.
The appellant, through the case had challenged an announcement made by adjudication of Model Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad about seizure of mobile phones.
Mobile phones first confiscated by the customs authorities at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad.
The petitioner had brought the mobiles into Pakistan through airport which MCC had declared illegal and in violation of regulations adopted for carrying mobiles phone in luggage.
The customs authorities had confiscated the mobile phones at the airport and subsequently decided not to release them as the petitioner had violated the rules while returning to Pakistan.
Same bench had already heard a couple of cases involving seizure of mobile pones at he airport. Therefore, it was expected that the bench would soon decide fate of the case.
