LAHORE: The NAB has arrested accused Faiz Muhammad, Executive Engineer (XEN) Highway Division Kurram Agency C&W Deptt, and Nadir Khan, a contractor. They are allegedly involved in embezzlement of Rs60million meant for construction of roads in Kurram Agency (FATA).
The FATA Development Authority (FDA) has allocated Rs80million for construction of 6.5 km road from Malota to Shagai and 3.5km Shingle road Daradar to Zora top which is a mineral bearing area having soapstone deposits. The FDA has handed over the said work for execution to the Highway Division C&W Deptt Kurram Agency.
During the course of inquiry, it was transpired that the execution of the above said work has not been done whereas fudge payment has been made in the account of the roads’ construction. Thus the accused persons, in connivance with each other, managed to embezzle more than 60million rupees and pocketed the same.
NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is actively examining the inquiry/investigation. More arrests are expected. The accused will be presented before the Accountability Court Peshawar for obtaining their physical remand.
