Customs Court grants pre-arrest bail to owner of non-duty paid Toyota Surf jeep

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi granted interim pre-arrest bail to accused Atiq-ur-Rehman son of Muhammad Ibrahim who is the owner of non-customs duty paid Toyota Surf jeep bearing registration No LSC 4894 (Lasbela) Model 2000 and evaded the duty and taxes in the sum of Rs 62,54,238 to the national exchequer.

During the hearing, counsel for the applicant appeared before the court and filed an application for interim pre-arrest bail. He argued that applicant was innocent and was falsely implicated in this case, that he was ready for face trail, however, he has apprehension of arrest; therefore, the court may grant him bail till final disposal of this case.

After the hearing, the court granted him bail and observed in its order that, “without touching the merits of the case, ad-interim pre-arrest bail is granted to said accused subject to furnish surety in the sum of Rs 200,000 with PR bond in the like amount to the satisfaction of this court.

Court issued notice to the special prosecutor of customs department and call police papers, court also directed the accused to join the investigation if and when required by the investigation officer and appear before the court on next date of hearing. Hearing was adjourned for March 3, 2017.

According to the prosecution, case was registered complainant by Munir Ahmed Chandio, Intelligence Officer, Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation-FBR Karachi against the owner of said vehicle namely Atiq-ur-Rehman son of Muhammad Ibrahim and Abdul Wahid son of Faqeer Muhammad (absconder).
