Tax evasion: Customs Court accepts interim challan against suspects

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has accepted interim challan against suspects, Adnan Abdul Majeed, Sharafat Ullah Khan, Nazakat Ullah Khan, Muhammad Ehsan and Naveed Khan, who were booked in a case of evasion of duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 1.02 million.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Shahid Ibrahim Dasti submitted interim challan against the suspects. He informed the court that the suspects, Adnan Abdul Majeed, proprietor of M/s Rainbow Industries, Sharafat Ullah Khan and Atta Ullah Khan, partners of M/s Danyal Agencies and Naveed Khan their employee as well as Muhammad Ehsan, proprietor of M/s Ehsan Enterprises, are allegedly involved in mis-declaration of old and used machinery, articles and other goods/scrap weighing 164,835 kg (approx.) and evaded the duty and taxes of Rs 1.20 million.

Names of Appraising Officer Abdul Samad Suahio, Model Custom Collectorate-Appraisement West Custom House Karachi and Investigation Officer Shahid Ibrahim Dasti Model Customs Collectorate West are mentioned as witnesses in the challan.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against them in violation of section 32 (1) & (2) 79 and 192 of the Customs Act. 1969 punishable under clauses (14) (45) (86) and (90) of section 156 (I) ibid read with section 6 & 33 of the Sales Tax Act 1990 punishable under clauses 3 (3) & (33) ibid further read with section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
