Customs Intelligence impounds non-duty paid vehicle during road checking

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) of the Federal Board of Revenue, Rawalpindi, has detained a non-duty paid smuggled Toyota Crown Royal car.

According to the sources, the Rawalpindi Customs Intelligence intercepted a non-duty paid smuggled Toyota Crown Royal model 2006 bearing fake registration plate No QK– 80 (ICT Islamabad) having Chassis No. GRS 180 – 0008175 near Army Check Post, Choor Chowk, Rawalpindi from the possession of Masood Mohsin son of Khan Mirza, a resident of Jehangir Road Chaklala.

On demand, the driver of the vehicle failed to produce any evidence regarding the legal import or lawful possession of the vehicle. The Excise and Taxation Motor Registration Authority Islamabad showed the record of a BMW- jeep model 2002 against the registration No QK-780 Islamabad Capital Territory. As per the Pakistan Revenue Automation (Private) Limited and auction data available with Customs Intelligence, no import and auction entry was found against the Toyota Crown vehicle.

The Toyota Crown vehicle was detained under section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969 for further verification of its import and auction status and payment of duty and taxes etc, after serving the notice to the owner under section 26 of the Customs Act 1969.
