Poppy crop spread over 699 kanals in KP areas destroyed

PESHAWAR: To control the growing ratio of drug addiction, the political administration of lower Mohmand sub-division destroyed the poppy crop spread over 699 kanals in different areas of Prang Ghar and Ambar tehsils on Wednesday.

Political Naib-Tehsildar Muhammad Riaz Khan told local journalists that the administration has started the eradication campaign against poppy with the help of the local elders and support of a heavy contingent of Levies and Khassadar forces in Dabar, Tatareen areas of tehsil Prang Ghar and Shati meena, Sheen Kamar,Sadiq Abad, Zawani Meena, Shah Khan, Sor Tangi,Snagar, Olai Shah and Shah Mat Kor of Ambar tehsil in lower Mohmand region.

“We have destroyed a total of 518 kanals’ poppy crop in the entire Prang Ghar tehsil including 429 kanals at Dabar and 89 Kanals at Tataren” , said Khan. Assistant Political Agent Naveed Akbar Khan said the administration had asked the tribesmen to voluntarily eradicate the poppy crop. He said the tribal elders were held accountable to mobilize the tribesmen to ensure eradication of poppy crop.

He said they had started the campaign from the first of week of February on the directives of Political Agent Mahmood Aslam Wazir in all the areas of lower Mohmand.

Political Naib Tehsildar Safi Muhammad Miraj Khan said that last night at 9: 30 pm unknown miscreants attacked a cell tower, however Levies and Khassadar force on duty responded effectively, and firing is still being exchanged but no loss of life or property has been reported so far.

Later, the security forces and Khasadar personnel cordoned off the area and began a joint search operation in the adjoining areas but no arrest was reported till the filing of this report.
