During the hearing, counsel for appellant argued before the court that the Pakistan Railways, a department of federal government, is paying its Income and Sales Tax liabilities regularly but the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sent Rs315.4million tax recovery notice to the Railways.

He added that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) also warns the Pakistan Railways that if the department does not pay Rs315.4million tax liability to the FBR then the FBR will freeze the bank accounts of the railways department and draw the said amount in taxes.

The counsel for railways prayed before the court that the LHC may declare null and void the tax recovery notice to the railways by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

After hearing the arguments, the LHC adjourns the case till 24th of March and seeks reply from the FBR in the case. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will present its arguments regarding the tax notice issued to the railways department.
