Accused mobile lady smuggler sent to lockup on physical remand

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi sent a lady accused, Samina Rafiq W/O Rafiq Ahmed, to Customs Department lockup on physical remand till April 02, 2017. She was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle/ non-duty paid mobile phones & auto parts from Dubai into Karachi.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced the abovementioned accused lady before the court and informed it that on a credible information, officials of the customs department intercepted her recovered 50 Motorola Phones, empty boxes for mobile phones Nos 25 and five kg auto parts valued of Rs550000.

To a query, she failed to produce any lawful documents therefore accused lady was arrested and goods were seized by the Model Customs Collectorate, Customs House, Karachi.

He requested the court for physical remand of the accused for further investigation, which was accepted. The court also directed the investigation officer to produce her on the next date of hearing along with a progress report.

According to the prosecution, a case was registered in violation of Section 2(s) 16 and 139 of the Customs Act-1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & 161 of the Baggage Rules-2006 notified vide SRO-666(1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006 and Import & Export (Control) Act-1950.
