KARACHI: Custom (Taxation & Anti-Smuggling) Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi extended the physical remand of accused namely Sunil Kumar S/o Tillu Ram and sent back him to Customs Department till April 06, 2017 who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle/non-duty paid mobile phones from Dubai to Karachi.
During the hearing, investigation officer produced the abovementioned accused before the court and informed it that dated March 27, 2017 officials of the Customs Department intercepted him and recovered seven I-Phones and 140 smart phones valued Rs01.8million.
When accused was asked to produce lawful documents of the above goods, he failed to prove anything legal. So the accused was arrested and goods seized by Model Customs Collectorate, Customs House Karachi.
The prosecution submitted that investigation has not been completed yet and it needs further physical remand, so the court extended his remand and sent him back to the Customs Department. The court also directed the investigation officer to produce him on the next date of hearing along with a progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered in violation of Section 2(s) 16 and 139 of the Customs Act-1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & 161 of the Baggage Rules 2006 notified vide SRO-666(1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006 and Import & Export (Control) Act-1950.
