Mianwali ASO seizes items, Nissan trailer during road checking

MIANWALI: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO), Mianwali has seized smuggled Ground Peanut, poppy seeds worth Rs26,38,400 involving customs duty and taxes worth Rs7,01,523. The ASO team also impounded Nissan trailer during a raid action.

Sources told Customs Today, that Customs Collectorate Collector Muhammad Sadiq received credible information regarding smuggling attempts. He formed an ASO team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Muhammad Umar Bhatti and Inspector Azhar Hussain Jafari, driver Riasat Hussain, Sepoys Faiz Ahmad, Sher Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah.

The team intercepted a Nissan trailer 10 wheeler bearing registration No, E-9298 (Peshawar) loaded O ), Ground nut peanut, poppy seed  packed in jute bags near Dagil district Bhakkar.

The officials asked the driver to produce documents regarding legal import of the goods. The driver who identified himself Ubaid Ullah son of Naz Walay said that goods were loaded from truck Adda Frontier Lahore Goods Transport Company Peshawar against truck bilty no: 2850 for Multan. The said truck bilty was examined and found that bags were not tallied with the recovers items.

After his failure, the ASO team seized the goods and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Collector Muhammad Sadiq has appreciated the performance of ASO team which foiled various smuggled bids in the region.
