KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim pre-arrest bail to suspect, Noman Abdul Rauf, an ex-employee of M/s AMI Pak Limited, who was booked in seven mega cases of tax evasion.
During the hearing, the suspect appeared before the court along with his counsel and moved an application for pre-arrest bail. The counsel argued that his client was innocent and was falsely implicated in this case. He submitted that Noman was ready to face trail, however, he had apprehension of arrest, and therefore, the court might grant him bail till final disposal of this case.
After hearing the arguments, the court granted him bail and observed in its order that, “Without touching the merits of the case, ad-interim pre-arrest bail is granted to accused to furnish surety in the sum of Rs 200,000 each with PR bond in the like amount to the satisfaction of this court.”
The court also directed the accused to join investigation if and when required by the investigation officer and appear before the court on next date of hearing. The court also called the police papers and issued notice to special prosecutor for customs department.
According to the prosecution, cases were registered against accused in violation of section 16, 32 (1), 32 (2), 32A, 79 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 9, 14, 14A, and 46 of section 156 (1) of the customs act, 1969 read with section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 read with Import & Export (Control) Act 1950.
