ISLAMABAD: The Air Freight Unit (AFU) has forwarded its required demands to the Federal Board of Revenue to run the AFU customs station at the new international airport Islamabad. The first Hajj flight will take off from the new Islamabad airport on July 21, 2017.
According to AFU, new infrastructure nears completion. The new Islamabad airport is huge in capacity and will get control over the newly built large premises. The AFU needs a lot of people and other things to run the new airport.
In the beginning, the AFU may run both airports (old and new one) at a time. In this way, the AFU needs more people and other things to run both airports at a time.
The Airport Security Force (ASF) has recruited 2,200 staffers for the new Islamabad airport. Regarding the revenue shortfall, the sources said the AFU is facing a shortfall of Rs200million during the current Financial Year FY2016-17 but it is hoped that the shortfall will be compensated during the next coming months (May-June FY16-17). Substantiating the claim of compensation, it is said that worth Rs130 million gold has been deposited into the Mint Section Lahore.
