Customs Court rejects bail pleas of three suspects involved in tax evasion case

LAHORE: The Special Federal  Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has rejected post arrest bail pleas of three accused, arrested on charges of tax evasion of approximately Rs 3 million.

According to details available to Customs Today, three suspects, Abdul Rehman, Abdul Aleem and Talat, were arrested by the Inland Revenue Department in a tax evasion case. They were sent to jail on judicial remand by the customs court. They filed post arrest bail pleas before the customs court that were disposed of on Wednesday.

On the other hand, during hearing of most of the cases, the counsels for the accused requested the adjourn the hearing of their respective cases for preparation of arguments on which the court adjourned the hearings for different dates.

According to the cause list, three out of 16 cases were fixed for formal hearing against accused namely Shehzad, Abdullah and Tariq and others. Pre arrest bail pleas were also scheduled for hearing that the court has also adjourned for next hearing.

The court also adjourned cases of narcotics, tax evasion, smuggling and customs matters. Cases from Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala ANF Multan were also scheduled for hearing on Thursday.
