Islamabad ASO impounds almonds & truck valued Rs2.2m

ISLAMABAD: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) impounded Afghan origin almonds worth Rs2.2million along with an offending vehicle (vehicles used for carrying smuggled goods) Mazda truck.

According to ASO Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad, ASO squad was on its routine patrolling when the staff stopped a Mazda truck coming from Rawalpindi loaded with smuggled goods. After interception, ASO staff asked the possessor to show the relevant documents of loaded goods, but he failed to produce any proof.

ASO staff seized the goods and brought themto State Warehouse.
Seized goods comprise eight ton of Almonds packed in 200 sacks. The value of the seized almonds is estimated Rs1.2million. ASO impounded the offending vehicle worth Rs1.00million.
An FIR has been lodged against the offender and further investigation is underway with the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Department. Collector MCC Dr. Arslan lauded the efforts of Inspector Asaf Mehmood and Superintendent Rana Shakeel of ASO for making a good seizure.
