Rural roads project a game-changer for economy: Shehbaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said that Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme (KPRRP) has proved a game-changer for the rural economy.

Talking to a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz here, he said that thousands of kilometres long carpeted roads had been constructed under the programme in rural areas of the province. “This is the largest programme of construction and rehabilitation of rural roads in the history of the country,” he added.

He said that the programme had helped farmers take their agriculture produce to marketplaces easily and it had benefited the major portion of the rural population. He said that so far more than Rs 67 billion had been spent on the programme and around seven thousand kilometres long carpeted roads had been constructed in the province. In the financial year 2017-18, Rs 17 billion would be spent on the construction of rural roads in different parts of the province, he added.
