ISLAMABAD: World Customs Organization (WCO) Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya called on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Pasha at the FBR House on Tuesday and lauded the performance of the tax officials in meeting the revenue collection targets.
Sources told Customs Today that Member Customs Muhammad Zahid Khokhar, Project director Integrated Transit Trade Management System Dr Zubair Yousafani and Chief international Taxes Syed Asad Raza Alvi were also present on the occasion.
Briefed the secretary general, Khokhar highlighted the geo-strategic importance of Pakistan and said that the Pakistan Customs had the capacity to meet all the challenges faced by the department. “We remained successful not only in revenue collections, but also on the enforcement side,” he said, adding that Pakistan shares borders with India, Afghanistan, Iran and China and faces many challenges in defending the economic frontiers of the country.
Dr Yousafani also briefed the secretary general about the Integrated Transit Trade Management System, saying the FBR wants digital mapping of all documents filed by importers and exporters to ensure the comparison of cargo details at the time of entry and exit.
Through cargo scanning, the Customs Department would be able to electronically transmit its images from entry to exit collectorates, he said. “In this regard, the digital mapping of the documents is necessary for comparison of the transit cargo,” he added.
