Improvement in system of customs under present govt impressive: WCO chief

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General World Customs Organization (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya said the improvement in the system of the Customs under the present government is very visible and impressive. Finance Minister told Secretary General Kunio that greater cooperation and linkages would be developed between Pakistan and WCO. The minister told the visitors that the government has taken several steps for the facilitation of cross-border and regional trade.

Finance Minister (FM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar said this on Tuesday during a chat with Secretary General WCO Kunio who called on him on Tuesday. Kunio is on a two-day visit to Pakistan. Dar said that comprehensive measures will be taken to improve and upgrade the customs procedures in Pakistan in coordination with the WCO to make functions of Pakistan Customs Department in line with the international standards.
During a meeting with the minister, Kunio Mikuriya appreciated the performance of Pakistan Customs under the administration of the current regime. The Secretary General showed his pleasure to visit Pakistan. Dar presented souvenirs to the state guests.
During his meeting with Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tariq Pasha and Member Customs Zahid Khokhar, he showed his satisfaction over the prevailing customs system and said that he still remember his visit to Pakistan when he was young. Mikuriya told them that the WCO would be happy to cooperate with Pakistan for further improvement in the system of customs. Chief Customs International was also present during all the meetings.
