HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sukkur has seized different smuggled and non-duty-paid clamp chargers, car tapes, FM radio’s hand-frees, phone speakers, chargers and mp3s worth Rs539000 involving duties and taxes of Rs250096 during an action near Taj Petrol Pump during the month of July 2017-18.
The Sukkur ASO team, following the instructions of Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, conducted a raid on the region to curb the smuggling.
Under the supervision of Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro, the team intercepted a vehicle near Taj Petrol Pump Sikarpor Road Sukkur and recovered said smuggled items. The goods were being smuggled into Pakistan. The officials asked the driver to show the legal documents regarding the loaded items but he could not produce the same therefore they confiscated the items under the Customs Act-1969 and shifted them to the Customs House Sukkur division.
After making a seizure report, the ASO team sent the case to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action against the accused person who was using a different method of smuggling through local transports.
The ASO team consisting of In-charge Makhan Khan, Inspector Muhammad Joriyal Abbasi, Inspector Abdu Rauf Bhutto, a sepoye and a driver took part in the action.
Officials said that Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq had directed that effective measures be taken for preventing the smuggling in the region. They added that the anti-smuggling officials have enhanced the vigilance on roads to keep an eye on the movement of the smuggled items and vehicles.
