HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Hyderabad, Customs Preventive Larkana, has confiscated foreign origin non-duty-paid 36 smuggled travel bags during an operation at a check-post of Jacobabad in July. The market value of the said item is Rs274050 involving duties and taxes.
Smuggled item was being transported from Iran into Pakistan. Following a strict instruction by Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, ASO team conducted various anti-smuggling activities to protect the national exchequer.
The team, headed by Additional Collector Customs Hyderabad Rehmatulah Vistro, constituted a raiding party consisting of Assistant Collector Mumtaz Ali Ghangro, In-charge check-post Jacobabad Inspector Aziz Ahmed Katpar, Inspector Agha Nazeer, Inspector Ray Abro, Inspector Nasarullah Gilal, Sepoys and Drivers.
The team intercepted a public transport vehicle and recovered above said 36 smuggled travel bags valued Rs180000 involving duties and taxes of Rs94050.
Prior to the recovery, officials asked the driver to produce any legal document about the possession of the item but he was unable to produce anything legal, so the consignments were taken into possession. A case was registered and an investigation was also started.
After a seizure report, the ASO team deposited the confiscated item into the Sukkur State Warehouse.
While talking with Customs Today, customs officials said that Hyderabad Customs showed excellent performance with regard to the anti-smugglings during the above said period.
Meanwhile, Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro, while talking with Customs Today, said the department is striving to increase the surveillance of suspects in the region as more check-posts have been established to frustrate the smuggling attempts.
